LAMINARIA

Local adiposity - Stimulation of connective tissue constituents synthesis
Cell energizing - Tonicity

LATIN NAME: Laminaria digitata L. (Laminariales) Brown algae

OTHER NAMES: Laminaria, kombu, sea tangle.

A distinctive feature of the brown algae laminaria digitata is that it emerges only during spring tides.
Presently, it is the most exploited one in France.
For very distant times, Japanese have been consuming this type of algae, which
they call kombu, and which they offer to the gods on certain ritual occasions.
Its richness in mineral salts, trace elements and vitamins make it an algae with
eminently cosmetic applications.

COMPOSITION

From thallus

  •  Amino acids
  •  Enzymes: super oxide dismutase
  •  Vitamins: B, B2, B3, C, E
  •  Polysaccharides: laminarin
  •  Polyalcohols: mannitol
  •  Mineral salts: potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulphur, iron, aluminium, copper

ACTIVITIES

The constituents of laminaria are necessary for cell vitality.
• They stimulate exchanges in tissue areas and energize the whole metabolism. Potassium and
sodium favour the moisturization of superficial layers of epidermis. Sulphur is a fondamental
structural element of amino acids, co-enzymes and vitamins which take part in tissue building
and renewal. Phosphorus is implied in the constitution of numerous active molecules with a high
energetic power.
• Vitamins A and C, combined with magnesium iron manganese and copper are activators necessary
to the succeeding steps of collagen and elastic fiber synthesis by the fibroblast. They take part in
tissue tonus.
• Sulphurated amino acids, methionin and cystin, associated with vitamins of the B family participate
in keratin constitution. They improve the conditions of stratum corneum and favour hair renewal.
